Level measurement of liquids 

The radar sensor VEGAPULS 61 is everywhere in use where the levels of liquids in containers have to be measured continuously and contactlessly.

VEGAPULS 61 operates according to the PULS radar method. This measuring principle is the ideal solution for measurement tasks in which contactless and continuous monitoring of the level in a tank or silo is especially important. But level detection is not the only strength of this measuring instrument: the radar level transmitter is also used for flow and level measurement in rivers, canals or open flumes when fluctuating temperatures of the medium or the surroundings place much higher demands on the instrument.

Area of application
The application possibilities can be found in almost all areas of industry. Particularly sewage works, wastewater treatment plants of chemical factories, power plants or other facilities of environmental engineering as well as power generation and supply rely on the reasonably priced option of monitoring levels continuously, reliably and accurately with VEGAPULS 61 radar.

VEGASON 61

Ultrasonic sensor for continuous level measurement

Application area
VEGASON 61 is suitable for measurement of liquids in storage tanks or open basins as well as flow measurements in open flumes. The sensor is also suitable for detection of bulk solids.

Function
Short ultrasonic pulses are emitted by the transducer in the direction of the measured product, reflected by its surface and received back by the transducer. The elapsed time from emission to reception of the signals is proportional to the level in the vessel.

Non-contact measurement

The quantity that enters a sewage plant is an important criterion for effective control of the complex system. The amount of air brought into the aeration basin depends on the amount of waste water that enters the plant. This controls the activity of the bacteria that break down the contaminating substances. To avoid the sensors getting dirty from the high solid content of the waste water, non-contact measurement of the flow volume is usually recommended.

Flow measurement with VEGASON 61

Because the flow volume in channels changes proportionally with the level height, the VEGASON 61 ultrasonic sensor with its non-contact measuring principle is the ideal solution for this particular measuring task. Without contact with the medium and the danger of contamination, the sensor accurately measures the level, and thus the momentary flow volume. All common flume profiles, like e.g. Venturi, V-Notch or weir, are already preprogrammed in the sensor software. Individual flume profiles can also be programmed by simply entering index values.

For heavy demands – VEGAPULS 61

Radar sensors like VEGAPULS 61 are also suitable for flow measurement in open flumes. For waste water treatment in chemical plants, where waste water temperatures change drastically or where solvents are contained in the waste water, the use of radar sensors is especially recommended.
